"Sue Christy (McKee) had a Fine Arts degree from the University of Iowa,College of Liberal Arts. She was a student of American painter Grant Wood”.

Grant Wood often asked his sister to pose for him (American Gothic). Sue painted Wood's sister in modern clothes in 1942-- wearing a simple dress and a wide brimmed hat. Sue was waiting for Wood to show up when they were informed he had died the night before”.

In 1939, five of her paintings were included in a show that traveled to galleries and museums across the US.  Her paintings where displayed in the Art Institute in Chicago, The Metropolitan Museum of Art in NY. Despite offers - Sue refused to sell her work. Two of those paintings were showcased in Sue's home -- the nude of the African woman and the girl wearing a scarf.”
